Jakarta City Council's Chairwoman of Commission D, Yuke Yurike, encouraged the Jakarta Provincial Government to optimize available cemetery land to address the limited number of burial plots in the capital.
There's no new land purchase yet
Yuke stated that in the 2026 Revised Regional Budget discussions, there was no budget for the acquisition of new burial plots. The available funds, she continued, were allocated for the maintenance and optimization of burial services.

According to her, optimization of funeral services can be done by fulfilling basic needs for residents such as shrouds, coffins, and headstones free of charge for people in need.
The City Council also encouraged the Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure that the existing hearses are well maintained so that they can be optimally utilized to serve the transportation of bodies, especially to areas that are still reachable from Jakarta.
Yuke emphasized that the need for burial plots remains a concern because the availability of burial plots in Jakarta is increasingly limited.
Therefore, it is hoped that land acquisition can be allocated in the next budget year by prioritizing land that is adjacent to or directly adjacent to existing cemetery complexes.
"Priority is given to existing ones," she emphasized.
She added that land acquisition in the Jakarta suburbs could also be considered, taking into account land prices and regional fiscal capacity. Meanwhile, land acquisition options outside Jakarta or in agglomeration areas still need further discussion with the relevant local governments.
"We'll try to optimize what's available in Jakarta first. If we really need to go outside the region, we'll definitely have to discuss it with the agglomeration areas or perhaps the ones surrounding Jakarta," she stated.
